The Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus Igor Karpenko visited the Yanka Kupala State University during a working trip to the Grodno region.
The visit of the Minister of Education of Belarus to Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno began with a visit to the construction site of the new hostel of the Yanka Kupala State University on Dubko Street. Here Igor Karpenko visited students' rooms, self-study rooms, a buffet, and other rooms.
Assessing the readiness of the construction, the Minister noted that students will be able to move into the hostel at the end of this summer. It is planned that the facility will be commissioned ahead of schedule.
- «The commissioning of the facility is scheduled for the end of the year. But builders promise that the hostel will be ready by mid-August. It is right. I would like to move students before the start of the school year»,-commented Igor Karpenko.
The new hostel of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno is designed for 1030 places and with commissioning it will provide housing for 85% of students of University.
The next point on the route of the working trip of the Minister of Education is Technopark of the Yanka Kupala State University. Here, Igor Karpenko was presented a new production, which was launched a few weeks ago: one of the first in the Republic of Belarus Technopark of Yanka Kupala State University began to produce protective screens for physicians, which are made by laser cutting and 3D printers. Products are in demand. At the moment, the company carries out orders from organizations from all over the region. More than 700 protective screens have already been implemented.
In addition, the Minister was told that this is not the only current development of scientists at University, created on the basis of the Technopark. For testing, the doctors received a splitter for ventilators, which will allow to connect several patients to the same medical device.
Igor Karpenko also visited the construction site of the second stage of the Science and Technology Park, whose total area is more than 6.5 thousand square meters. The new building will accommodate both office and industrial premises, open-space sites, co-working centers, a large conference room equipped with all necessary equipment. Premises are already reserved by some residents.
- «The fact that the university is now actively involved in the development of the Technopark is very important. Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno is a regional driver in the implementation of the University 3.0 project. The main task of the university now is to pull here other universities, as well as secondary specialized and vocational educational institutions. In addition, it is important to determine the promising areas of applied research, which can form the basis for creating innovative products, developing market conditions, marketing research and well-organized logistics. These are exactly the tasks that technology parks should face today», - said Igor Karpenko.
After visiting the Technopark, the Minister of Education got acquainted with the organization of the educational process of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno using information and communication technologies, as well as forms and methods of monitoring the educational process online. Recall that until May 8, the educational process in connection with the epidemiological situation and in order to ensure safe conditions has been transferred to virtual space.
- «Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has a unique experience in implementing information technologies in the educational process. Activities in this direction have been successfully carried out for many years, and today, in connection with the current situation, is more relevant than ever. We have created all the conditions for conducting classes online. Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno takes part in charity events for doctors.
On April 24, the university handed over a certificate in the amount of 3,000 rubles and a gratitude note to the Grodno Regional Ambulance Station, in which it expressed appreciation to the doctors for their responsible and hard work.
It is worth noting that Yanka Kupala State University is not the first time helping medical staff. So, Technopark takes an active position, where universal protective screens are produced daily, using laser cutting and 3D printing technologies, and they also produce personal protective equipment for physicians. More than 700 protective screens have already been implemented, contracts for the manufacture of more than 2000 pieces have been concluded.
In addition, one hundred protective screens for doctors purchased at the expense of the trade union committees of workers and students of the Yanka Kupala State University, were sent to medical institutions of the regional center. Together with the protective screens, trade union activists - employees and students of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno - donated hand sanitizer sprayers to the medical institutions of the city of Grodno for sanitary treatment of hands.

The seminar, which takes place in a remote format from April 18 to 26, brought together 70 teams from 17 countries.
Five teams represent Belarus at online training meeting. These are students from Belarusian State University, Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radio Electronics, Yanka Kupala State University Grodno.
Within the framework of the seminar, participants perform contests - five-hour tasks to solve 10-12 problems. Students also have the opportunity to participate in thematic lectures from leading experts from Moscow and St. Petersburg. It is worth noting that the Moscow Pre-Finalist Workshop seminar is a preparation for the final of the World Programming Championship.
Team Leader, Senior Lecturer, Department of Mathematical and Information Support of Economic Systems, Yuri Stepin, is sure that such competitions are a very important moment in the professional growth of students:

The Technopark of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno is expanding the production of personal protective equipment for physicians
LLC «LIRA & Co» became the tenth resident of the Science and Technology Park of Yanka Kupala State University. The signing of the contract took place on April 22.
The company «LIRA & Co» is involved in the development of tools that can be useful and relevant for the current epidemic in the world. Employees of the enterprise demonstrated two ready-made models of protective equipment; there is one more model in development plans. Today, they all focus on different stages of the fight against coronavirus infection. By the way, the team of developers - specialists from different fields - can work in the digital direction, that is, remotely, without reference to one place.
- We have developed a non-contact reusable respirator. This model does not need to be worn on the face, it completely seals the area around the head. They can be disinfected and used more than once, - says the head of the company Pavel Krivenko.
The team also creates protective suits:
- Our products are thought out to the smallest detail. It looks like an ordinary suit, but we used in it a lot of technological approaches. In addition, to improve the product, we test it. For example, the resuscitator can be in this suit for a very long time, from 6 to 12 hours, therefore, for each type of medical direction, these products are modified and changed.

More than 900 online lessons are taught daily by teachers at University.
Since the beginning of this week, the classrooms and corridors of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno have been unusually quiet: until May 8, the educational process to ensure a safe environment has been transferred to virtual space. Teachers say almost all students “attend” online classes regularly.
“The entire educational process, while maintaining its content and quality of training, has been transferred to the university’s educational portal and organized online,” said Marina Kolotsey, the head of the educational-methodical department of the Yanka Kupala State University. - In order to use widely this form of work in the organization of the educational process, our university has been ready long time ago. The fact is that the educational portal of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has been functioning for more than 10 years. And today it is not only a repository of information, where all the educational and methodological complexes in each discipline are concentrated, but also a convenient platform for communication between teachers and students.
In addition to the educational portal, the university also uses other online platforms for virtual communication between teachers and students: WebEx, Zoom, Skype, as well as social networks. By the way, the schedule of academic disciplines remained unchanged, only some adjustments were made: now, in the schedule opposite each discipline, a virtual platform is indicated instead of the class number, and laboratory classes that require the use of special equipment have been postponed to a later time.
- The university has all the conditions for conducting remote classes. We have both an educational media complex and classrooms in the scientific library, which are convenient for teachers to work with, ”explained Marina Kolotsey. - In addition, if necessary, the university is ready to provide both technical and advisory assistance to those teachers who have difficulty in organizing the educational process in a new format. For all teachers, step-by-step instructions have been prepared, they are posted on the educational portal of the university. These instructions provide detailed instructions on how to give a lecture, practical, seminar or laboratory lesson, as well as how to conduct an online test. Thus, today we have provided technically and methodically all forms of training and knowledge control.
Since the second semester is the time of preparation for term papers and dissertations, the curriculum also provides for consultations both online and offline. At the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, they are sure that the quality of the educational process will not suffer.
“It’s customary for me to conduct lectures in the webinar format,” Natalya Valko, assistant professor of general physics, shares her opinion a few minutes before the start of the next online lecture. - My students are mainly future programmers, and it can be said that they are even more interested in working this way. Now we communicate with students almost continuously.
Student Mikhail, who was present at the lecture of the teacher Natalia Valko, in turn, noted that the content of the training did not change at all. All materials are available, feedback has been established with the teacher, which means that both students and university staff continue to work effectively. Moreover, everyone is trying to get the most out of the situation. So, university employees see a plus, first of all, in the fact that in the next two to three weeks they will be able to increase significantly their level of ownership of information and communication competencies.

One hundred protective screens for physicians, purchased at the expense of the trade union committees of workers and students of Yanka Kupala State University, were sent to medical institutions of the regional center.
The employees of the Emergency Hospital of Grodno, as well as the Grodno Regional Children's Clinical Hospital and the City Clinical Hospital No. 2 of Grodno, have already received protective screens from University. The City Clinical Hospital No. 3 of Grodno is ready to accept assistance from trade union activists of the university. The need in providing with the additional means of protecting from other medical institutions of the regional center is being studied.
“Now we are actively communicating with the representatives of the Grodno Healthcare Trade Union, who help us collect reliable information about which medical institutions lack remedies for physicians,” said Igor Kerget, chairman of the trade union committee of Yanka Kupala State University.
Together with the protective screens, trade union activists - employees and students of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno - will give dispensers for hand sanitization to medical institutions in the city of Grodno. As noted in the university trade union committee, Kupalists will continue to provide all possible assistance to physicians in this busy period.

The international distance education marathon “Kupalovskyу Projects 2020” invites you to take part in testing network projects
Testing of the projects created as part of the marathon and will take place from April 27 to May 17.
International distance training “Spring session. April ”aims to conduct a public-professional examination of network projects created by the participants of the marathon, increase the ICT competence of teachers and master modern interdisciplinary technologies, including distance learning technologies. A competition for grants for the implementation of research and innovation projects has been announced at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno
Grants will be allocated from the Innovation Development Fund, which was formed at the university last December.
The competition is open and takes place at the university for the first time. In the future, it is planned to be held annually. Participants can be both individual researchers and research teams from among the university’s full-time employees, including separate structural units, students, undergraduates, graduate students and doctoral students, as well as research associations of university students from among student research laboratories and student design bureaus. The materials and information provided for the competition of projects must be original, should not contain information that explicitly or indirectly violates any obligations of confidentiality of authors, intellectual property rights.
According to Yury Romanousky, Vice-Rector for Research, financial support from the funds of the Innovation Development Fund of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno can be provided on a competitive basis to employees and students of the university who are working on the implementation of innovative projects planned for inclusion in the State Program for Innovative Development of the Republic of Belarus, implementation of export-oriented innovative projects, as well as projects aimed at creating and organizing the activities of small innovational enterprises engaged in the commercialization of the results of the university research activities. Applicants, students, undergraduates, graduate students and doctoral students of the university can apply for grants if their scientific and innovative activities are aimed at carrying out research, development and experimental-technological work, ensuring the creation and production of new products, advanced technologies and new to our Republic and the global economy of services, as well as acceleration and implementation of innovative projects and developments that ensure the implementation of research results work in the production process of enterprises and organizations of the country.
The competition for grants will be held in 3 stages. The first stage starts from March 23 and will last till April 24. During this period participants must submit an application for the competition, a business project and its feasibility study, as well as the estimated financial costs of the project. Only one application is accepted from each participant. Participants in the competition may submit additional documents to the project, including reference materials related to the implementation of research, development and experimental and technological work, as well as work on the development and production of new types of goods and services. The subjects of the projects submitted to the competition must comply with the List of priority areas of scientific and technical activity.
From April 30 to May 18, an examination of the provided materials will be carried out. During the examination, the work will be evaluated according to criteria such as innovation, technological structure of the technologies being introduced and their origin, the planned volume of production of high-tech products, commercial and export development potential, the payback period of the project, the reality of the timing of the stages and work as a whole, and the reasonableness of the estimated costs. When selecting projects for financing from the funds of the University Innovation Development Fund, priority will be given to projects based on technologies of V and VI technological structures, as well as those that end with the release and sale of innovative products. The selection of projects and the summing up of the competition will be held from May 19 till May 29, 2020.
The competition for grants for research and innovation projects is aimed at creating conditions to support the commercialization of scientific results, stimulating research and innovation activities of the university employees and students, selecting promising research and innovation projects to further assist in their implementation and promotion, the formation of project activity skills among the participants of the competition, the creation of conditions for unlocking potential and whether the growth of participants in the competition and ensuring the implementation of the development priorities of the university.
Grants will be allocated from the funds of the Innovation Development Fund of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, which was formed at the end of the last year with the aim of financially supporting the innovative development of the university.

In the updated ARES-2020 rating, Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala strengthened its position, rising from the fifth to the second place.
The ARES (Academic Ranking of World Universities-European Standard) rating is calculated by the European Chamber of Science and Industry. Data is processed automatically, completely eliminating the involvement of the human factor.
The goal of the ARES Higher Education Institutions Rating is to assess the ability of universities to provide students with the necessary knowledge, to participate in research and development, as well as the opportunity to actively communicate with future employers. The European Higher Education Standards are accepted as evaluation criteria, which were approved by the BFUG Bologna Coordination Group and approved by the EC Conference of Ministers of Higher Education. Important parameters of the rating are the international activities of the university and the role of the university in the social, economic and cultural development of the region.
The ARES rating assigns 4 categories of assessments for the level of teaching quality, scientific activity and the demand for graduates by employers: category A (High quality performance), category B (Good quality performance), category C (Sufficient quality performance), category D (Conditional failure).
According to the ARES-2020 International Rating of Higher Education Institutions, 29 higher education institutions of the Republic of Belarus were included in the rating. The Mogilev State University of Food and the Belarusian State Academy of Music participated in the ranking for the first time.
Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala has been participating in this rating since 2014 and is among the best universities in the Republic of Belarus. According to the results of ARES-2020, published in April 2020, Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala ranks second among Belarusian higher education institutions and is the first included in category A (High quality performance), which classifies it as a university with high quality teaching, research and the demand for graduates by employers.
The leaders among Belarusian institutions of higher education (holders of category A) are Belarusian State University, Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala, Belarusian State Medical University. Gomel State University of Francis Skorina is on the fourth place, Belarusian State University of Economics – on the fifth.

The competition for the best art postcard dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the Great Victory will be held in two stages. During the first stage - till April 20 - the best cards will be chosen in the primary trade union organizations of educational institutions. The competition is held in order to preserve the memory of the events of the Great Patriotic War. The creative work and the envelope are performed in the digital drawing technique and are given to the competition in electronic and printed versions.
When evaluating the creative work of the jury of the competition, its artistry and aesthetics, harmony of the composition and color scheme, uniqueness and originality of the design, quality and aesthetic appearance will be taken into account. Also, the submitted work will be evaluated for compliance with the goals and objectives of the competition and the presence of all components (postcards and an envelope for it) will be take into account.
The competition is held by the Youth Council of the Grodno Regional Organization of the Belarusian Professional Union of Education and Science and is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War. According to the results of the competition, the winners of stage II will receive diplomas and cash rewards from the organizers.
