Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno expands cooperation horizons at the XIII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia
On June 25 and 26, one of the largest events for the two countries – the XIII Forum of Regions of Belarus and Russia – is held in Minsk. Aleksandr Karevskiy, First Vice-Rector of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, took part in the event.
This year's forum theme is "Economic Interaction of Regions – the Basis for Sustainable Development of Belarus and Russia."
On the first day, a meeting of 10 thematic sections was held, where participants discussed Belarusian-Russian cooperation in various areas. The first day also featured an expert session on the theme "The Union State. Territory of Development" and a meeting of the Committee on Standardization and Quality of the Union State.
The second day featured the Plenary Session of the forum, as well as meetings between the Chairpersons of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation with heads of local government bodies. In addition, over the course of two days, participants were able to visit the fair-exhibition of goods from Belarusian and Russian manufacturers.
Traditionally, the Forum of Regions has become a platform not only for dialogue between government authorities and the business community of the two countries, but also for establishing ties in the fields of science and education.
Within the framework of the event, Aleksandr Karevskiy, First Vice-Rector of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, signed International Cooperation Agreements with two Russian universities – Nizhny Novgorod State Technical University n.a. R.E. Alekseev and Russian Biotechnological University.
The agreements will become another link in the educational landscape of Belarus and Russia and will provide the universities with opportunities for interaction in various areas: from conducting joint research and developing joint educational projects to student and teacher exchanges.
Summer School of Belarusian Language and Culture will be held at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno
Summer School of Belarusian Language and Culture "Under the Bright Name of Kupala," which has already become a tradition, will open its doors from August 3 to 14 for everyone wishing to learn the Belarusian language and get acquainted with the national culture. This year, Summer School will be held for the sixth time.
The program is designed for those who are just beginning their acquaintance with the unique world of Belarusian studies or who wish to improve and deepen their knowledge in the study of the Belarusian language and culture.
Participants can expect creative classes and active leisure activities. Students will have the opportunity to visit the centre of Grodno, museums and iconic sites of the Grodno region, as well as take part in workshops on traditional crafts.
Stars are born: Graduation prom held at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno
Today, June 23, the square of the university flag of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno became the epicenter of beauty and ambition. The traditional university ball brought together hundreds of talented graduates to brightly celebrate the end of the academic year and the start of a new chapter in their lives. Not only teachers and the administration of their alma mater gathered to congratulate the young stars, but also honored guests and parents.
For many years, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has maintained this good tradition – inviting the best graduates of the university to the Rector's Ball and seeing them off into adulthood.
This year, YKSUG has 2,211 students, of which 1,805 are full-time students and 406 are part-time students, and among them are true talents. The hundreds of young people gathered at the ball can rightfully be called the "golden fund of the university" – these are laureates of various awards for achievements in science, prize-winners of sports competitions and winners of creative contests.
The official ceremony was opened by Iryna Kiturka, Rector of YKSUG. With emotion and pride, she addressed the graduates:
– Today is truly a great celebration. A celebration for each of you personally, for your families, and a great celebration for our university. Today is the milestone when we do not say goodbye to you, but see you off into independent life. Throughout these four years, we taught you not only to master the science of your profession, but together with you we tried to identify, reveal and realize your potential. Four years ago, we met you as first-year students at your first lecture "University of Your Opportunities," and then I told you: "be bold, dare, do not stay on the sidelines." The university provides everything for you to turn into stars, and today on this square, in the very heart of the university, stars have truly gathered.
Addressing everyone present, Iryna Kiturka noted that today's ball is also a celebration for parents, and thanked them for their support of their children in all endeavors. She also expressed gratitude to her colleagues for all the work they had done to educate the students. Iryna Kiturka presented each of the graduates with a symbolic gift – a "star envelope" with words of encouragement for the future.
Not only their teachers and parents came to congratulate the now young professionals, but also honored guests. Words of parting to the graduates were addressed by Zoya Kulesha, Head of the Administration of Oktyabrsky District:
– I want each of you never to doubt the path you have chosen. I wish that the work you will serve and have chosen will be to your liking – then your future path will be much easier.
Also present at the celebration were Sergey Mazailo, Director and Editor-in-Chief of the "Grodno Plus" TV and radio channel, and Yuri Savitsky, Deputy Head of the Grodno Regional Customs, a graduate of YKSUG. They wished the young people to develop, change the world around them, and not be afraid of mistakes.
On behalf of the parents, Ruiz Hernandez Francisco Manuel, the father of a graduate of the Faculty of Law from Venezuela, thanked the administration and teaching staff for their diligent work.
Throughout all four years, teachers were invariably there for the students. They taught, guided, advised and supported the students to raise them into worthy specialists. Lyudmila Chernilovskaya, Dean of the Faculty of Arts and Design, wished the graduates not to stop at what they have achieved, to set ambitious goals and confidently overcome any difficulties.
On behalf of the 2026 graduates, Anastasia Kisel, a graduate of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism, expressed words of gratitude to teachers and parents, as well as wishes to her colleagues.
Graduation is both a joyful and sad event, because carefree student days are ending and adult life begins. After so many years spent in lectures and practical classes, it is very difficult to part with one's native educational institution. Yulia Sinkevich, a graduate of the Faculty of Philology, admitted that for her, the years of study flew by like one moment:
– My studies are special because I studied for five years, but for me this time flew by like one moment. Now, standing here, I can't even believe that graduation day has arrived, and it is truly exciting. The university gives a lot: not only important disciplines for our future, but simply teaches life, helps to express oneself and reveal one's potential, – shared the graduate.
For many students, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has become not just a place of study, but a real family. And Ruiz Hernandez Francisco Manuel was no exception:
– I arrived in 2021, not knowing the language and no one around, but now four years of study are behind me. Now I know the language, I have many friends and memories that I will never forget. University years are a wonderful time. I would really like to go back to 2021 to go through this path again, but I understand: this is my experience, and it will stay with me. Wherever I go, I will always remember that Belarus has become my second home, – the graduate confessed.
More than two thousand graduates will soon graduate and join the ranks of young professionals. However, they will never forget the years spent at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno. And who knows, perhaps in time they will return to their beloved university, but not as students, but as parents of new star graduates.
Representatives of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno became participants of the International Forum "Great Heritage – Common Future"
On June 20–22, on the initiative of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Union of Belarus and Russia, the International Forum of the Union State "Great Heritage – Common Future" was held. Our representatives also became part of this large-scale event.
The forum was timed to coincide with the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the Great Patriotic War and was held with the aim of preserving and protecting the historical memory of the feat of the Soviet people in the fight against fascism and countering the ideology of neo-Nazism.
The participants of the event included leadership and deputies of the Parliamentary Assembly, foreign parliamentary delegations, members of the Youth Chamber at the Parliamentary Assembly, as well as leading experts from the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation. Among those interested in protecting historical memory was also a delegation of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, which took part in the forum in an online format.
During the event, participants discussed pressing issues of preserving common historical memory, the development of patriotism and civic consciousness among young people based on historical knowledge, fostering respect for the feats of ancestors and careful attitude to historical and cultural heritage, as well as the protection of historical truth. Special emphasis was placed on countering the ideology of neo-Nazism.
The participation of our representatives in such a large-scale patriotic event demonstrates the readiness of YKSUG not only to discuss but also to actively contribute to the preservation of the historical memory of the feat of the heroes of the Great Patriotic War.
Trade Union Without Borders: representative of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno became a participant of the Trade Union Activist Forum
From June 18 to 21, the XII International Festival "Trade Union Without Borders" was held in Moscow, bringing together 250 active representatives of trade union youth from Russia and Belarus, as well as guests from Kazakhstan and Armenia. Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno was represented at the event by Vadim Gunko, Chairman of the Primary Trade Union Organization of Students of the University.
The official opening ceremony of the forum took place at the Victory Museum. Within the framework of the festival program, participants laid flowers at the Eternal Flame in the Hall of Sorrow, viewed the installation in the Hall of Glory, and went on excursions.
One of the key events of the forum was the Professional Success Workshop, where participants exchanged experiences and discussed current issues of trade union work. The festival concluded with a visit to the musical "Fear Nothing, I'm with You."
The International Festival "Trade Union Without Borders" was held in Moscow for the first time. The venue for the next, XIII festival will be the city of Grodno.
Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno and Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation signed a Memorandum on the Establishment of a Personnel Training Centre for new electric vehicles and alternative energy technologies
During the official visit of the delegation from Gansu Province to Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, a memorandum was signed between YKSUG and Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation on the establishment of a Personnel Training Centre for new electric vehicles and alternative energy technologies. This document defined the areas of international cooperation between the educational institutions.
After discussing the prospects for cooperation, the Chinese colleagues were given an introduction to the Faculty of Engineering of YKSUG. The tour of the faculty was conducted for the guests by Dean Dzmitry Linnik. He thoroughly acquainted the guests with the departments, specializations, classrooms, facilities and equipment, and also spoke about the specifics of education.
The culmination of the meeting was the signing of the memorandum on the establishment of the Personnel Training Centre for new electric vehicles and alternative energy technologies between YKSUG and Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation. Its purpose is to develop international cooperation in the field of education, strengthen mutual understanding, friendship, and partnership relations.
The parties agreed to cooperate in the establishment by Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation of a Personnel Training Centre for new electric vehicles and alternative energy technologies and alternative energy sources on the basis of the Faculty of Engineering of YKSUG. The universities also agreed to develop and implement joint projects in the field of education, engage specialized state and non-state organizations in cooperation, and hold joint events.
New horizons of cooperation: meeting with representatives of Gansu Province held at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno
On June 10, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno welcomed a delegation from Gansu Province, China: representatives of the UNESCO Association of Gansu Province and Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation. The meeting was held to discuss new areas of cooperation.
The UNESCO Association of Gansu Province was represented by its Chairman, Du Yongjun. The delegation of Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation included: Nan Zhanjun, Rector of the College; Yang Hai, Head of the International Relations and Cooperation Department; Li Hai, Dean of the Automotive Faculty; and Guo Kaiming, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Management.
YKSUG side was represented by: Aleksandr Karevskiy, First Vice-Rector; Liavontsi Paulau, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs; Dzmitry Linnik, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Viktar Varapaev, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering; Tatsiana Bulay, Acting Head of the Educational and Methodological Department; Alena Belakoz, Head of the Education Internationalization Centre; Volha Minava, Head of the International Cooperation Office; Alesia Belko, Head of the International Projects and Academic Mobility Office; and Wang Tao, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Translation and Intercultural Communication.
After an exchange of greetings, Liavontsi Paulau presented a presentation to the Chinese colleagues on the cooperation between Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno and the UNESCO Association of Gansu Province. The parties then proceeded to discuss collaboration. Participants raised issues concerning the exchange of staff for internships and lecturing, as well as the participation of university staff in scientific and educational events of partner universities. Special attention during the discussion was paid to joint work on the establishment of a "Peili Workshop" at YKSUG. The meeting participants discussed the experience of the Chinese side in creating the "Peili Workshop," principles of work organization, and joint actions.
The outcome of the meeting was the signing of an International Cooperation Agreement between Kupala University and Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation.
After the official part, the Chinese guests were given a tour of the university and the Faculty of Engineering. For June 11, a tour of Grodno is planned for them.
For reference: Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation is a provincial-level continuing education base for vocational and technical personnel. Its structure includes 10 secondary colleges offering training in 35 specializations in areas such as automotive engineering, intelligent connected new energy vehicles, modern logistics, urban rail transit, aviation services, and intelligent transportation systems.
The college promotes extensive interaction between educational institutions and enterprises, as well as deep integration of industry and education. In 2023, the first SAIC Volkswagen training base was officially established on the institution's premises. To date, the college has signed cooperation agreements with 40 companies and has established long-term partnerships in student internships and employment with more than 130 organizations.
Furthermore, the college actively develops international ties. Cooperation agreements have been signed with 8 institutions from 6 countries, including New Zealand and Spain. In 2024, Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation established the "Peili International Education and Training Base" in collaboration with Gwadar Technical College in Pakistan. In 2025, an agreement was signed with the All-Nepal Research Center for International Vocational Education "Learning with Results."
Cooperation with Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno began with a visit by Liavontsi Paulau, Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs. The meeting took place on April 15 as part of a working visit by a delegation of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee to Lanzhou. During these negotiations, a partner for joint work on establishing the "Peili Workshop" was identified.
Interaction continued on May 8 with an online meeting between representatives of YKSUG and representatives of the UNESCO Association of Gansu Province and Gansu Vocational and Technical College of Transportation. The parties discussed current issues, details of establishing the "Peili Workshop" at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, and the agenda of the upcoming in-person meeting.
Yana Tretyak, student of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, wins bronze at FISU World University Championship Combat Sports
From June 8 to 13, the 2026 FISU World University Championship Combat Sports is taking place in Brazil. The championship has already brought a brilliant victory to Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno: Yana Tretyak, a 4th-year student of the Faculty of Physical Education, has won a bronze medal!
The path to the podium was challenging. Our athlete confidently defeated her opponent from France, demonstrating a high level of preparation. In the next stage, Yana lost to a representative of Brazil. However, in the decisive match for third place against an athlete from Russia, she managed to secure a victory. Following the competition, Yana Tretyak became the bronze medalist in women's wrestling.
The staff of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno sincerely congratulates Yana on this outstanding achievement! We wish her to always believe in her own strength, to inspire her team with her triumphs, and to confidently conquer new Olympic heights!
Opening of the Confucius Institute and participation in the Rectors' Forum: Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno continues its work within the framework of the SCO Ministers of Education Meeting
On June 17, the meeting of the Ministers of Education of the SCO Member States continued its work in Minsk. Today, within the framework of this event, a conference on cooperation in education, research and production between China and Belarus, as well as the SCO University Rectors' Forum, took place. Active participants in these events were the delegation of YKSUG led by Rector Iryna Kiturka.
The China-Belarus International Conference on Cooperation in Education, Research and Production "Intellectual Interaction between China and Belarus – Joint Innovations in the Context of the Future" was held at the National Library of Belarus. Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno was represented by Rector Iryna Kiturka and Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Liavontsi Paulau.
A significant part of the event was the presentation of the initiative to open the Confucius Institute of YKSUG, which is being implemented by the Chinese International Foundation for the Development of Chinese Language Education, Xinjiang Normal University and YKSUG. The initiative is aimed at creating a new platform for mutual in-depth linguistic, cultural and scientific exchange between the two countries and will expand opportunities for studying Chinese language and culture for the Grodno region.
Also within the framework of the meeting, Iryna Kiturka together with the delegation of YKSUG took part in the Rectors' Forum of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization University. This event was timed to coincide with the jubilee tenth Meeting of the Ministers of Education of the SCO Member States and brought together on its platform the leadership, experts and leading scholars from key higher education institutions of seven countries.
Participation of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno in such large-scale events allows strengthening the university's position on the international educational and scientific arena and friendly ties with partner universities.

Representatives of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno took part in the SCO Young Scientists Forum
On June 17, a large-scale event was held in Minsk – the SCO Young Scientists Forum, which brought together young researchers from the Shanghai Cooperation Organization member states on a single platform. Among the participants were also representatives of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
The delegation of YKSUG included Barys Balakhonau, Associate Professor of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure of the Faculty of Law; Ivan Yermak, Lecturer at the Department of Modern Programming Technologies of the Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science; and Alesia Stetskaya, Senior Lecturer at the Department of Natural Sciences and Linguistic Disciplines and Methods of Their Teaching of the Faculty of Pedagogy.
The forum was organized in two sections: the technical section, where presentations of modern IT solutions and engineering projects took place, and the humanitarian section, dedicated to current legal, social and linguistic research.
One of the main events of the forum was an exhibition of advanced Belarusian developments. In the exhibition showcasing key innovations of domestic universities, representatives of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno presented unique projects and scientific-technical achievements of their institution to the guests of the event.
Participation of the our representatives in the forum provided the university with the opportunity to exchange experience, present the innovative potential of both their institution and the Grodno region as a whole, as well as establish strong international ties.

On June 16, a large-scale international event was held in Minsk – the tenth meeting of the Ministers of Education of the SCO Member States. The forum was chaired by Andrei Ivanets, Minister of Education of the Republic of Belarus. Within the framework of the meeting, the SCO University Conference took place, in which a delegation of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno led by Rector Iryna Kiturka actively participated.
The forum participants included more than 30 representatives of the SCO Member States, among them Ministers of Education and their deputies, university rectors, and staff of relevant institutions.
YKSUG was represented at the event, together with Iryna Kiturka, by Yuri Gnezdovsky, Dean of the Faculty of Pedagogy; Volha Yanchurevich, Dean of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology; Andrei Pranevich, Dean of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics; Volha Minava, Head of the International Cooperation Office; and Natalia Dorash, Deputy Dean for Ideological and Educational Work of the Faculty of Arts and Design.
During the SCO University Conference, the delegates discussed international cooperation in the field of education. Key topics included scientific-technical and innovative interaction in priority areas. Special attention was paid to the development of joint research and the implementation of projects of mutual interest contributing to the development of the education sector.
Students-translators of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno became prize winners of an International Translation Competition
Students of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno worthily represented the university at the annual International Competition of Scientific Translation Projects "LinguaBridge: Unity in Diversity." Following the intensive work, our students became holders of second and third-degree diplomas.
"LinguaBridge: Unity in Diversity" is a large-scale intellectual competition aimed at identifying and developing students' practical skills in analyzing and translating foreign language texts. This year, 512 students from 40 higher education institutions in Russia, Belarus, and countries abroad took part in the competition.
During the competition, our students performed translations of texts from English and German into Russian online.
A total of 215 students took part in the final stage, including six representatives of the "Linguistic Support of Intercultural Communications" specialization of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism of YKSUG.
Third-year students Anna Misyuta and Angelina Kuts were awarded third-degree diplomas in the English-to-Russian translation competition. In the German-to-Russian translation competition, a second-degree diploma was awarded to fourth-year student Anna Tokarchuk, and a third-degree diploma to fourth-year student Arseniy Sadyuk.

Ihar Martynenko, professor of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, took part in educational events in Yekaterinburg
Ihar Martynenko, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure, doctor of Juridical Sciences, professor of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, took part in a series of scientific-practical and educational-pedagogical events at the Ural State Law University named after V.F. Yakovlev in Yekaterinburg as part of an internship.
Ihar Martynenko was welcomed by Vladimir Bublik, Rector of the Ural State Law University named after V.F. Yakovlev, Doctor of Juridical Sciences, Professor, Honored Lawyer of Russia. After the business part of the meeting, our professor presented his Russian colleague with issues of the collection of scientific articles "Problems of Civil Law and Procedure," published at YKSUG.
During the visit, a discussion on forms of cooperation took place with the Vice-Rector for Strategic Development and Research, Head of the International Cooperation Department, Head of the Research Management Office of the Ural State Law University named after V.F. Yakovlev. Ihar Martynenko also took part in a scientific discussion during the defense of the doctoral dissertation by Elena Ostanina.
In addition, during his visit to Yekaterinburg, Ihar Martynenko spoke as a panelist at the panel discussion "Memory Policy as an Interdisciplinary Tool of Social Technologies in Legal Science and Education: History and Modernity" within the framework of the European-Asian Legal Congress. Together with colleagues, Ihar Martynenko discussed the problems of scientific master's programs and the attestation of highly qualified scientific personnel.
During his visit to Yekaterinburg, Ihar Martynenko also visited the Ural State University of Economics and the Ural Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia.
During his visit to the Ural State University of Economics, forms of cooperation in educational-methodological and project activities were outlined. Here, a textbook "Public-Private Partnership" was published in co-authorship with scholars from both universities, which is used in the educational process of both educational institutions.
At the Ural Institute of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia, our professor met with the leadership of relevant departments, who accepted his methodology for qualifying offenses in the field of cultural heritage for use in the scientific-practical activities of police agencies.
This trip became an important step in the development of international cooperation between Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno and universities in Yekaterinburg.
