Students, graduates and postgraduate student will represent Belarus at the XXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro.

Tonight, on the 5 August the solemn opening of the XXXI Olympic Games will be held. Belarusian sportsmen also take part in the competitions; among them are 7 representatives from Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.

Those are postgraduate student Ivan Tikhon (hammer throwing), students Elena Soboleva and Pavel Boreysha (hammer throwing), Irina Yakoltsevich (pole-vaulting), Soslan Daurov (Greco-Roman wrestling, 59 kilos) and 2016 alumni Mariya Filonchik (basketball) and Vitaly Bubnovich (bullet shooting).

Our sportsmen will present Belarus at international sport competitions from 6 till 11 August.

National delegation consists of 180 persons: 123 athletes and 57 trainers, and they will compete in 24 types of sport and 76 disciplines of the Olympic program.

Among the sports are basketball, boxing, freestyle and Greco-Roman wrestling, bicycle sports, rowing, kayaking and canoeing, judo, athletics, table tennis, sailing, swimming, water jumps, jumping on trampoline, synchronized swimming, modern Pentathlon, archery, bullet shooting, taekwondo, tennis, weightlifting, free calisthenics, fencing.

Foreigners from 14 countries have come to YKSUG to study Russian

Russian Language Summer School opened for the second time at YKSUG

This year, among participants are students, postgraduates, lecturers and representatives of different companies from 14 countries: United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Belgium, Germany, Spain, Iraq, Italy, Cameroon, Canada, China, Poland, Slovakia, USA, France and Japan. Total number of those, who is going to improve Russian and get acquainted with life in culture in Belarus, is 31 guest.

The study began on the 2nd of August. Students were divided into 5 groups of language level. Wannabes will be trained by lecturers of the Russian as a Foreign Language: Inna Yuryevna Samoylova, Elena Ivanovna Bilutenko, Natalya Grigoryevna Muzichenko, Irina Grigoryevna Kraskovkskaya and Tatyana Vladimirovna Cherkes.

The students of the Summer School are going not only to study Russian, but they also will have eventful cultural program, which will help them to know Belarusians’ life, customs and traditions. There were prepared a lot of events to entertain the foreign guests: historical sightseeing in Grodno and other towns, kayaking in the Augustow Canal, boat trip on Neman, visit at “Grodno” BC, YKSUG Historical Museum, folklore and doll-making workshops, etc. After finishing of the Summer School, all foreign guests will be given a participant certificate.

The youngest student of the Summer School is 20, the oldest is 59. Last year, the oldest was a participant from Slovenia, who was 36. Previous year the Summer School gathered 20 women and 6 men, this year 12 men and 18 women. Besides, one of the Italian guests from the Summer School 2015 have not only visited our land for the second time, but also have brought a new wannabe, and one of the Polish students is working as a volunteer this year.

Project runner is the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Linguistic Disciplines from the Faculty of Pre-University Training.

YKSUG keeps the 2nd place among the Belarusian higher education institutions in Webometrics Ranking of World Universities

According to the last update of Webometrics Ranking of World Universities (july 2016), Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno stays on the 2nd place among the Belarusian higher education institutions.

As it has been before, the 1st position is after Belarusian State University, the third place is after Belarusian National Technical University.

Besides, YKSUG keeps leading rank among higher education institutions of Grodno. Grodno State Medical University has the 6th place among Belarusian higher educational institutions, Grodno State Agrarian University is on the 30th position.

Top-10 of Belarusian higher education institutions by Webometrics Ranking:

1. Belarusian State University;

2. Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno;

3. Belarusian National Technical University;

4. Belarusian State University of Informatics and Radioelectronics;

It is also worth mentioning, that in Ranking Web Repositories (Webometrics) an e-library “YKSUG Scientists’ works” keeps the 3rd place among e-libraries of Belarusian universities (position 653 in world). The first place is, as usual, after BSU e-library (114), the 2nd is after BNTU repository (351).

Webometrics (Webometrics Ranking of World Universities) has been created in 2004 and is being maintained by Cybermetrics RG, which is a part of National Research Council of Spain. This ranking evaluates online activity and quoting not only for universities, but also for medical institutions, business-schools, research centers and higher education institutions’ repositories. Main criteria of the ranking are information scale, actuality and the popularity of universities’ Web-pages.

Master's Degree Student of Medical University of Lodz undertakes an internship at the Faculty of Biology and Ecology

In the framework of the international program IAESTE Master's Degree Student of the Faculty of Biomedical Sciences and Postgraduate Education of Medical University of Lodz, Anna Eva Waczynska conducts research in the laboratories of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology of YKSUG.

Anna Eva told, that the main objective of her research - the definition of genome analysis methods in plant and animal life, and study of the flora and fauna of vertebrates of Grodno city and its environs.

During the internship, she plans not only to conduct research in the field of biochemistry, but also to visit Grodno zoo and museums of the city, see the sights, to visit the Museum of the History of YKSUG and to get acquainted with the University library funds. In addition, Anna Eva will not leave without attention Russian language Summer School in YKSUG, which is organized by the University for the second time. The student with the other participants of the project will improve the knowledge of the Russian language and will get acquainted with the Belarusian culture.

 

 

Principal of Community Outreach Academy elementary school in Sacramento (USA) visited Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno

The working meeting of Larissa Gonchar with representatives of the University administration was held on 26th of July. Principal of Community Outreach Academy Elementary School received an invitation from Andrei Korol, the Rector of the University, in January of this year during the official visit of the Belarusian delegation to Sacramento.

Students of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno participated in the Days of Youth of the Republic of Belarus in the Republic of Azerbaijan

   The Days of Youth of the Republic of Belarus were held in the Republic of Azerbaijan for the first time from 7 till 10 of July, 2016. The participants of the event were students from Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno: Jana Miliuk, Nikolai Makareev and Andrei Doktorov.

Students of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno visit Beijing in the framework of educational familiarization tour.

   The educational familiarization tour for 100 students from Belarus to Beijing has started on the 20th of July, 2016. It will last for two weeks. The participants from YKSUG are the students who involved in study of Chinese culture and language – student of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics Evgeniy Demidovich and student of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism Olga Gracheva.

   Head of the Department of General and Slavonic Linguistics of the Faculty of Philology Ludmila Rychkova and senior lecturer of the same department Alesia Stankevich visited the Institute of the Lithuanian language and Vilnius University on the 14th of July, 2016.
