International Student Round Table: Digital Law and Consumer Protection

On December 7, Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno hosted the VI International student practice-oriented round table on the topic "Consumer rights and their protection using digital law tools".

The event brought together more than 200 participants from Belarus and Russia – teachers, graduate students, undergraduates and students of the Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, the Moscow City University of Management of the Government of Moscow named after Yu.M. Luzhkov, Yaroslav the Wise Novgorod State University, the Russian Customs Academy, Tambov State University G.R. Derzhavin, Ural State University of Economics, Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov.

The work of the conference is structured in two directions – the presentation of plenary reports and sectional studies. The participants discussed topical issues of consumer protection in the digital age. They exchanged experience and knowledge, and also identified vectors for further cooperation in order to improve legislation in the field of consumer protection.

– We are very pleased to see such a great interest of students and experts in discussing consumer protection issues. Our goal is not only to provide the forum participants with new knowledge, but also to jointly develop constructive recommendations for improving legislation in this area. We hope that the results of this round table will be useful for the development of digital law and increasing the level of consumer protection not only in our countries, but also on a global scale," said Igor Martynenko, Professor, Doctor of Law, Head of the Department of Civil Law and Procedure at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.

The invited guest – Professor of the Department of Civil Law of Lomonosov Moscow State University, Doctor of Law, Professor Andrey Sherstobitov stressed that knowledge of the law in the era of digitalization and development of marketplaces helps to avoid fraud and receive compensation in case of violation of consumer rights by sellers and service providers.

The event is also aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the field of consumer protection and promotes the development of digital law as a tool for protecting the interests of consumers in Belarus and Russia.
