New tourist routes are being developed in Grodno. They will be dedicated to Eliza Orzeszkowa and Liudwik Zamenhof

An international online conference dedicated to Eliza Orzeszkowa and Liudwik Zamenhof was held at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, says “Grodno Plus”. It was organized as part of a project within the Cross-border Cooperation Program Poland-Belarus-Ukraine 2014–2020.

The interest of researchers in life and work of Eliza Orzeszkowa, a Belarusian and Polish writer, and Liudwik Zamenhof,  a Polish linguist, scientist and inventor of Esperanto (the most successful of the invented international languages), is based on the contribution of these historical figures to the culture of Belarus and Poland.

At the time, both Eliza Orzeszkowa and Liudwik Zamenhof lived in our city. Grodno researchers, who are studying the personal background of Eliza Orzeszkowa, set out to not only reveal the writer as a person, but use the information received in developing of tourist routes in Grodno.

Students of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will develop this website in the future. Students of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno also worked on a plan of guided tours for guests of Grodno, which allow them to experience the atmosphere of our city of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Researchers from Grodno and Bialystok started studying Eliza Orzeszkowa and Liudwik Zamenhof’s life and work a year ago. The project is now coming to an end. The online conference has become a kind of summing up of the 12 months work.
