The progress of the implementation of the project of International Technical Assistance financed by EU under Erasmus+ CBHE programme «EU best practices-based education in Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Culture for the Belarusian Academia»

The first reporting period of the «EU best practices-based education in Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Culture for the Belarusian Academia» Radium approached. The project coordinator is the University of Bologna.

 

PROJECT OBJECTIVES: to promote a qualified education in Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety Culture (RP&NSC) in Belarus, the RADIUM partners will

  • Map the Belarus Nuclear Safety Standards, labor market needs & educational proposals and develop a Policy Paper that take into account the EU best practices and international standards;
  • Train the Belarusian academic staff in Nuclear Physics & Chemistry, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Safety Culture at EU Higher Education Institutions;
  • Design and implement the “RADIUM” Master, in line with Bologna principles, in cooperation with EU partners, accredited by the Ministry of education of the Republic of Belarus and adopted throughout the Country.

The project is approved 27.07.2021 in the Republic of Belarus. Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno in cooperation with European and Belarusian partners successfully takes part in the project implementation. The Belarusian partners are preparing the opening of the new joint Master programme on the base of Belarusian State University. The opening of such specialty is very important in connection with the launch of the Belarusian nuclear power plant. The working group of the project at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, headed by the academic manager Natalia Valko, associate professor, PhD in sciences, participates in all planned activities of the project: at the moment, the Belarusian partners of the project have carried out a detailed analysis of the structure of national requirements in the field of radiation safety, the needs of the labor market, proposals for educational programs; a round table was organized and held on the basis of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno on the opening of a new Master’s in nuclear physics, the procedure for the purchase of equipment for laboratory work financed by the EU grant has launched, the location of the future laboratory has been determined, a project quality assurance system, a plan for internal communication and dissemination of the project has been developed, online training is conducted on the basis of the Higher School Mannheim (Germany) for Belarusian teachers in chemistry and physics.
