Among those who met hummer thrower Ivan Tsikhan were the Minister of Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Shamko, Deputy Chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee Viktor Liskovich, the delegation of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, headed by rector Andrey Korol, and also fans.
Andrey Korol, the rector of our Alma Mater, said special words of gratitude and congratulations in the address of Ivan Tsikhan, the graduate student of Kupala University. In his turn, the athlete noted that he made every effort in order to achieve this result at the Olympics.
– We did it. The one team that defended the honor of Belarus on the Olympic games, worth much. I am proud to have been in its ranks. And I do not lose hope that in Tokyo four years later the "gold" will be in my hands! – said Ivan Tsikhan.
The hummer thrower said that he also planned to complete his postgraduate studies at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, to get a diploma of a researcher and write a book or scientific work through which he would be able to pass on his experience to the young athletes.
Some other students of our University represented Belarus at the XXXI Olympiad in Rio de Janeiro in the national team. Among them were Yelena Soboleva and Pavel Bareisha (hammer throw), Iryna Yakaltsevich (pole vault), Soslan Daurov (Greco-Roman wrestling, weight category 59 kg) and graduates Maria Filonchik (basketball) and Vitaly Bubnovich (bullet shooting).
