The first week of the Russian Language Summer School 2016 at YKSUG: introduction evening, sightseeing and workshops.

Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno hosts the Russian Language Summer School for the second time. The first week was eventful and versatile.

The opening ceremony took place on August 2. There Vasili Vasilyevich Senko, Vice-Rector for Educational Affairs of YKSUG, greeted participants and sent his best wishes to them. The event continued with introduction of participants, where our guests told about themselves, their families and hobbies. Volunteers prepared a festive concert, as well. The biggest surprise of the evening became a video appeal from Russian Language Summer School 2015 participant Evelina Makowska.

During the week, our guests went with excursion to the historical center of Grodno, visited SS. Boris and Gleb (Kalozha) Church, “Grodno BC”, where they were able to see how DJs from Radio Grodno do their job and were told, what was the history of 20th century TVs and broadcasting equipment museum.

Students of Russian language summer School warmly appreciated a lecture on the Belarusian culture by Sergey Vladimirovich Donskikh, Chairman of the Tourism and Cultural Heritance Department. Also our guests liked video lecture on the history of the Belarusian multiplication.

Coffee-toy workshop, organized by Larisa Leonidovna Skvortsova, senior lecturer of International Business and Marketing Department of the Faculty of Economics and Management, revealed the first results of study and time spent in Belarus. A lot of students painted Belarusian ornament with great relish, wrote on the self-made toys words “Summer School”, “Grodno”, “Belarus”, “I love Grodno”.

At the end of the week the participants of the Russian Language Summer School visited woods at the Grodno outskirts, discovered a lot about flora and fauna of Grodno and saw plants, which are placed in the Red Book, and also they discovered how to measure tree height. Students-biologists Andrey Smirnov and Bozhena Mazurek.

At the weekend guests visited museum complex of ancient folk handcraft and technologies “Dudutki” and the capital of the Belarus – Minsk.
