The winners were named in eight nominations. For the first time — in the nomination “Internationalization”.
In the nomination “Doctor of Sciences”, the first place was taken by the head of the Department of Botany, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Associate Professor Oleg Sozinov. The head of the Department of Biochemistry, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Ilya Zavodnik became the second. The third place was awarded to the professor of the department of Russian philology, doctor of philological sciences, professor Alexei Nikitevich.
The first place in the nomination “Candidates of Sciences” was taken by the head of the Department of Zoology and Human and Animal Physiology of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology, candidate of biological sciences, associate professor Olga Yanchurevich. The Department of Fundamental and Applied Mathematics won the ranking of departments in the nomination “Educational Activities”, the Department of System Programming and Computer Security became the second, and the Department of Belarusian Philology is the third.

Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno and Glazov State Pedagogical Institute named after V. G. Korolenko signed a cooperation agreement
The signing took place on February 25 as part of the forum “Days of Udmurtia in the Republic of Belarus”, which is being held in Minsk. Kupala University was represented at the forum by Vice-Rector for Educational Work, Vasily Senko.
The cooperation agreement between the two universities is aimed at developing international relations in the fields of education, research and cultural exchange.
Thus, within the framework of the agreement, it is planned to organize joint research, implement programs and projects, prepare research projects and put their results into practice. This includes implementation of scientific internships, exchange of students, undergraduates, and postgraduates for their training, and exchange of scientists and teachers for lectures and consultations. Among the areas of cooperation are the preparation of joint scientific and methodological publications, peer review of research and educational and methodological works, assistance in the development and preparation of joint textbooks, manuals, lectures, methodological recommendations, scientific and practical comments, dictionaries, etc. and literature exchange. The plans include holding and participating in joint scientific, scientific-practical seminars, conferences, symposiums, meetings, thematic round tables, meetings, as well as other scientific, practical, methodological and cultural events.
It is worth noting that within the framework of the forum, thematic round tables were held where the parties discussed the development of industrial cooperation between the enterprises of the two countries, the possibilities of industrial cooperation in the field of healthcare, social rehabilitation, higher and secondary vocational education, as well as the prospects for further cooperation in the field of tourism. In addition, during the visit, members of the Udmurt delegation laid flowers at the Minsk Hero City Obelisk, after which they met with the leadership of the Belarusian Railway and the Minsk Automobile Plant and visited the High-Tech Park.
Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno hosts the first regional stage of the «WorldSkills Belarus» competition in the «Primary Education» competence
Students of Volkovysk and Lida colleges, as well as a student of the pedagogical faculty of Kupala University, take part in professional skill competitions.
While passing the regional stage tests, participants must successfully cope with the tasks of two modules: “General Cultural development” and “General Professional development”. Representatives of the expert group, in turn, will evaluate the quality of the self-presentation prepared in advance by the contestants, as well as the level of their professional skills in developing and conducting classes using interactive equipment and a fragment of a virtual tour.
“This year, the competence “Primary Education” is presented for the first time at the national competition of professional skills “WorldSkills”, – said the Dean of the Pedagogical Faculty of the Yanka Kupala State University Svetlana Kostritsa. “And for the first time in the walls of the Yanka Kupala State University, we are holding the regional stage of the competition for this competence. This is an important and serious event for us. I think that the participants are very excited right now. Therefore, opening the competition, I want to address my first and main words to you, participants. Good luck to you, as well as concentration and calmness – these are the qualities that a primary school teacher needs in his daily work.”
By the way, Elvira Pavlyuchik, a 4th-year student of the pedagogical faculty of Yanka Kupala State University, based her presentation on the arguments about the personal and professional qualities of the teacher. She is convinced that the profession of primary school teacher is one of the most creative ones. Elvira intends to further develop in the profession, and participation in the WorldSkills contest will undoubtedly open up new perspectives. Representatives of two colleges of the Yanka Kupala state University – Volkovysk and Lida – are also competing for the title of the regional stage winner of the professional skills competition in the competence “Primary Education”: Ivona Yadeshko and Anna Lavrova are students of the Volkovysk College, and Irena Shibovskaya is mastering the profession of a teacher at the Lida College of the Yanka Kupala state University.
“First, the contestants presented themselves in a short five-minute performance. The second part of the competition day involves a longer and more intense work of the participants. Within three hours online, they will prepare for the task they received. They have all the necessary equipment, materials and textbooks at their disposal. Then the contestants will give a lesson for volunteers.” – said Elena Lapkovskaya, associate Professor of the Department of Natural science and linguistic disciplines and methods of their teaching at Yanka Kupala State University.
According to the results of the regional stage of the WorldSkills Belarus contest, participants will be awarded with diplomas of I, II and III degrees. The winner will represent the Grodno region at the final stage of the professional skill competition “WorldSkills Belarus 2020”.
Topical areas of cooperation were discussed during the visit of the delegation of K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional State University to the faculty of physics and technology
The visit took place as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the Yanka Kupala State University.
The rector of K. Zhubanov University, Baurzhan Erembetov, vice-rector for strategic development Kuanyshbek Shunkeyev and dean of physics and mathematics faculty Altanshash Bekbauova visited the faculty of physics and technology.
During the visit, the prospects for further cooperation with scientists of the faculty of physics and technology of Kupala University were discussed. The guests got acquainted with the main areas of work of the molecular spectroscopy and nanostructure optics laboratory of the faculty of physics and technology, visited the supercomputer center, as well as the science and technology park.
During the discussion, the parties reached an agreement on the conclusion of another export contract for the supply of an experimental plant to K. Zhubanov University, which is being developed by scientists of the faculty of physics and technology.
The guests were actively interested in the developments of the faculty in the field of object research using x-ray fluorescence and laser emission analysis. This task is particularly relevant for the Aktobe region in connection with the planned development of a valuable mineral, diatomite, which can be used as a highly effective sorbent in industry and medicine.
A possibility of performing joint research in the field of computer modeling of physical processes using remote access to computing resources of the Yanka Kupala State University was discussed.
A demonstration of a prototype of an innovative alcohol tester based on an electrochemical sensor developed at the faculty of physics and technology by a team of young scientists and graduates (Artur and Alexander Litskevich, Alexey Nikito, Witold Zaman) took place. By the way, this development has caught the interest of field-oriented Kazakh specialists, a joint project has been formed to complete R & D and commercialise the development results on the territory of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In addition to discussing joint research projects, the prospects for designing joint educational programs and two-degree education in the master's degree program of the faculty of physics and technology were also considered.
For reference: Cooperation of the faculty of physics and technology of K. Zhubanov University began with the visit of the first vice-rector of K. Zhubanov University Kuanyshbek Shunkeev to Kupala University in August 2017. On November 28, 2017, Minsk hosted the sixth meeting of the working Commission for coordinating the activities of the scientific and educational consortium between higher educational and research institutions of the Republic of Belarus and the Republic of Kazakhstan, at which K. Zhubanov Aktobe Regional State University was accepted as a member of the consortium.
Within the framework of joint work in the consortium, scientists of the faculty of physics and technology of Yanka Kupala State University have implemented 5 export contracts, prepared 5 scientific publications and 7 applications for scientific projects, and organized an internship for undergraduates in the laboratory of molecular spectroscopy and nanostructure optics of Kupala University.

Current issues of University development in the modern world are discussed at the Yanka Kupala State University
The plenary meeting of the conference “University is the territory of advanced development”, dedicated to the anniversary of Kupala University, was held on February, 20.
During the plenary meeting, the Rector of the Yanka Kupala State University Irina Kiturko welcomed the participants of the conference and told them about the advanced development of the University, its strategy and achievements:
- This celebration allows us to look back and see what work has been done in the previous periods, to understand the direction we need to take.
Irina Kiturko noted that 2020 completes the period of implementation of yet another strategic plan, so the issue of summing up and setting plans now becomes particularly relevant for the formation of a strategy for the next period of 2021-2025. The head of the university stressed that special attention was paid to young people at the Yanka Kupala State University and, above all, to the development of entrepreneurial initiatives of students and those studying within the framework of the project “University 3.0”. Large-scale targeted efforts are being made to identify the needs of employers and to employ graduates. To improve the quality and efficiency of the University's activities through broad reengineering of all processes and the introduction of innovative business models based on the modernization of the information and communication environment, the Digital University+ project is being developed, with priority given to the internationalization of education. Targeted efforts have allowed Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala to take priority positions in many international rankings.
It should be noted that the plenary meeting of the conference presented the experience of development not only of Belarusian universities. Igor Maksimtsev, honorary Professor of the Yanka Kupala State University and head of the Saint Petersburg State University of Economics, spoke about the relations between Russia and Belarus in the context of Eurasian integration:
– Today we are not just exchanging experience, we are building the future. This is the merit of the entire team of employees, teachers, and students. I would like to once again congratulate you on the anniversary and thank you for presenting me with the gown and diploma of Honorary Professor of Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala.
In turn, the head of the Lesgaft National State University of Physical Education, Sport and Health Sergey Bakulev told about the innovative practice of sports, and the Vice-Rector for development of the University in Bialystok Yaroslav Matveyuk told about the reforms that had taken place in the education system in Poland. Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk met students and teachers of Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala
During the meeting which was held in the format of an open dialogue, Alexander Konyuk answered students' questions concerning a variety of topics.
At the very beginning of the conversation, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk noted that each visit to Grodno is significant for him. Back in the day, he left his hometown to go to the capital.
—I was not as lucky as you: in 1977, there was no law faculty in Grodno State University of Yanka Kupala yet, — Alexander Konyuk said. — If there was, I would have stayed here, of course. Kupala University trains excellent specialists.
The Prosecutor General of Belarus told that he was always sincerely happy to have the opportunity to speak to with students and was seriously preparing for such meetings, trying to give young people and future specialists as much useful and interesting information as possible. Alexander Konyuk told the students of the law faculty of Yanka Kupala State University about the specificity of the Department headed by him, and also touched upon the issues of reforming the judicial and legal system. He recalled that the concept of judicial and legal reform had been created in the country in 1992, but it so happened that the process of serious changes in the system had begun much later, in 2011. Answering one of the questions raised in the audience, the Prosecutor General speculated a little about how much the Prosecutor's office would change in 10 to 15 years:
— It is difficult to say for sure, but one thing is clear: the work of prosecutors will continue to be in demand. Most likely, the functions of the Prosecutor's office will be transformed, but the basics of the profession in their classical sense will remain.
Traditionally, students were interested in employment issues. Alexander Konyuk agreed that the service in the Prosecutor's office is prestigious, the entire legal elite is represented in the Prosecutor's office system, which means that there is great competition among applicants for the corresponding positions. But we are interested in good, knowing specialists, and they are always expected. As for the glut in the market with certified lawyers, this problem does exist.
— Does this mean that the number of law students should be regulated? Possibly. But we need to see how high a level is given to young professionals in a particular educational institution. Graduates with a law degree from the Yanka Kupala State University usually have a good level of training, – the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Konyuk noted.
During the open dialogue, students asked a lot of questions about violations in the field of IT, opportunities to use new information technologies for more extensive coverage of the Prosecutor's office activities, as well as cases of criminal proceedings due to publications on the Internet. The danger of spreading fake information on the Internet, as well as how representatives of the Prosecutor's office treat this trend was also discussed. The students also touched upon such a topic as making amendments to the Administrative Violations Code.
At the end of the conversation, we talked about the Prosecutor General's hobbies, favourite sports and representatives of the gentle sex in the profession. Alexander Konyuk made no secret of the fact that the service in the Prosecutor's office is not easy and sometimes women in uniform have a hard time. However, both physical and moral strength is important for all representatives of this profession. But at the same time, the Prosecutor's work is very diverse and therefore interesting. And, if there is a vocation, then gender does not play a significant role at all. At the moment, almost half of the Prosecutor's office employees are women.
Summarising the meeting, Alexander Konyuk admitted that he was impressed:
– It was a breath of fresh air for me to talk to you. I felt your creativity and saw interested individuals here. And, you know, I was just thinking that I would love to go back to my student days. This is the most beautiful time!
The Prosecutor General of Belarus sincerely wished that Kupala students were always lucky, that they successfully realized themselves in the profession and were never disappointed in their choice. He also added that he will address the most sincere wishes to their native Alma Mater during the meeting dedicated to the anniversary of the Yanka Kupala State University. The ceremony will be held on February 20 at the Grodno Regional Philharmonic Hall and will be one of the holiday week highlights.

For a major contribution to the development of the University, increasing its authority in the international arena, the title of Honorary Professor of the educational institution "Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno" was awarded to Igor Maksimtsev, the rector of the St. Petersburg State University of Economics, doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor. Irina Kiturko, the rector of Yanka Kupala State University, thanked Igor Maksimtsev for his contribution to the development of Kupala University: international research, conferences and training of highly qualified specialists. Birthday cake and a flashmob: students of Yanka Kupala State University congratulated the University on the upcoming birthday
Events "We are 80!"and “Birthday cake" continued the marathon of events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Yanka Kupala State University.
As part of the "We are 80!" on the University flag square, kupalovtsy took part in a dance flashmob to the song dedicated to the University's birthday and took a memorable photo from a bird's eye view. After that, students and employees of Kupala University gathered in the dining room, where a large cake in the shape of the number 80 was waiting for them. The rector of Yanka Kupala State University welcomed all participants of the event. Scientists from eight countries gathered at Yanka Kupala State University to discuss the role of the university in the modern world
The opening of the international scientific and practical conference "University-the territory of advanced development" was held on February 19.
About 200 scientists and researchers from Belarus, Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Lithuania, Macedonia, and Switzerland took part in the representative forum. Over the course of two days, they were discussing strategies for advanced development of the university, as well as sharing the experience of international cooperation between higher education institutions. – We support the idea that the university today should become a driver of the development of modern society, - the first Vice-rector of Yanka Kupala State University Oleg Romanov said in his welcome speech during the opening of the conference. – After all, it is at the university that the formation of human potential takes place, fundamental and applied knowledge is generated here, which is necessary for the development of society. I am sure that today's conference will contribute to solving the problem of creating a type of university that helps society move along the path of progress. Two plenary reports were presented during the opening of the conference. Viktor Tarantey, a Professor at Yanka Kupala State University, spoke about the 80-year history of Kupala University and its role in improving the educational process. In particular, he shared his experience in writing the Chronicle of Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, which will be presented in the near future. Dmitry Sultanov, Head of research solutions in Russia and Central Asia at Elsevier, addressed issues of science evaluation, ratings, and publication activity in his report. He stressed the importance of international cooperation for scientific organizations, and also noted that he considers the name chosen for the large scientific forum, which is held as part of the anniversary of Yanka Kupala State University, very successful. – The General theme of the conference "University – the territory of advanced development" fully reflects current global trends, - Dmitry Sultanov said. - After all, now universities are not only educational institutions, but also the centers of scientific activity. Moreover, we are increasingly talking about the commercialization of science. In turn, Yuri Romanovsky, a Vice-rector for research at Yanka Kupala State University, noted that our University is already on this path of development. Currently, kupalovtsy are actively building a model of "University 3.0", which involves combining three components on the basis of one institution: education, science and commercial activity. Discussion of topical issues continued during the breakout sessions. The sections were devoted to the following topics: "University as a driving force of the digital transformation of the economy", "Fundamental and applied research as the basis for advanced development", "Prospects for humanitarian education in the era of digital transformations","Digital transformation of education as a factor of advanced development". On the second day of the conference, a plenary session was held, during which the rector of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, Irina kiturko, the rector of St. Petersburg State University of Economics, Igor Maksimtsev, the rector of the National State University of Physical Culture, Sports and Health named after P. F. Lesgafta Sergey Bakulev, Vice-rector for development of the University in Bialystok Yaroslav Matveyuk, Vice-rector for international relations of the Chernivtsy National University named after Yuri Fedkovich Petr Fochuk and Vice-rector for strategic development of the Aktobe Regional State University named after K. Zhubanov Kuanyshbek Shunkeyev spoke. The opening of the exhibition was held as part of the celebration of the 80th anniversary of Yanka Kupala State University.
The opening ceremony brought together students and staff of the University. The exhibition entitled "Aerial Grodno" includes 35 unique photographs of the city and the University, taken from a bird's eye view. - Through art creative people can and should awaken love and respect among our youth for their country, for its past, present and future, for the heritage that we have – the first Vice-rector of Yanka Kupala Grodno State University, Oleg Romanov, said during the opening of the photo exhibition. – It is noteworthy that the author of these works expressed his love for his native city, his small homeland and the University, using modern technical tools that are now in the arsenal of photographers. These photos were taken using a quadrocopter that stayed in the air for more than 110 hours, flying 800 kilometers. With the help of a quadrocopter, Sergey Morozov took several thousand photos. The author captured recognizable locations of Grodno in different seasons, at different times of the day. The most interesting photos were selected for the photo exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Yanka Kupala state University. There are also those that depict the building of the native Kupala University. – I am a happy person, - the author shared, presenting the exhibition. - I am happy because the city where I live inspires me to create, and the University where I work gives me opportunities for self-expression. And the most important thing is that my work is in demand, because I can present my works to the audience, including at this exhibition. Associate Professor of journalism at Yanka Kupala State University, candidate of Historical Sciences Sergey Morozov has repeatedly presented his photo works at personal exhibitions in Belarus, Russia, and Lithuania. He is a nominee and the winner of national and international photo contests, as well as a member of the honored Amateur team of the Republic of Belarus of the people's photo club "Grodno".
"Happy birthday, University!": a student event in the framework of the "Living history" project was held on February,18 at Yanka Kupala state University
As part of the campaign, Kupala residents and everyone could congratulate Kupala University on its upcoming 80th anniversary.
In the hall of the main building of the University, volunteers of the civil-Patriotic project "Living history" offered students and employees to pass a kind of exam – to draw a ticket and answer a question about the history of their Alma Mater – and, if the answer is correct, to receive a gift from the organizers of the event. "When was the University flag square opened?", "In what year was Irina Kiturko appointed to the post of rector of Yanka Kupala state University?", "What plant adorns the facade of the academic building in Ozheshko street and is the hallmark of the University?"- the questions on the quiz "Pass the exam perfectly" sounded very different. And if they seemed quite easy to the undergraduates, the first-year students were forced to think a little. Meanwhile, the action continued in the street near the University building in Ozheshko street – here passers-by and everyone had the opportunity to congratulate the oldest University of Grodno and the region on its anniversary. Participants of the action also received pleasant souvenirs for their wishes to the University.
