Online meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Belarus Nazarguly Shagulyyev was held at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno
Participants of the event discussed the importance of the neutrality policy in ensuring international peace, security and sustainable development.
Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno Yury Bialykh noted in his welcoming speech the importance of the present topic, and also expressed hopes for the meeting to contribute to the further development of fruitful relations between Yanka Kupala University and the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Belarus.
“Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno has been regularly visited by representatives of the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Belarus since 2013, and since May, 2015 these visits have reached a new level. During this period of time Yanka Kupala University has hosted the delegation headed by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Turkmenistan to the Republic of Belarus four times,” Yury Bialykh said.
Nazarguly Shagulyyev confirmed his interest in developing cooperation and said that this year is very important for Turkmenistan.
“Turkmenistan is celebrating the 25th anniversary of its permanent neutrality status this year. Neutrality and non-interference in the affairs of other countries are effective means in the development of international cooperation,” said Nazarguly Shagulyyev.
He also told the participants of the video conference that Turkmenistan is currently at the stage of implementing economic reforms, which will allow the country to become integrated into the world economic system.
During this event Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno was also complimented for its contribution to the development of Turkmenistan's human resources potential. Vice-Rector for Academic Affairs Yury Bialykh drew attention to the fact that 490 citizens of Turkmenistan are currently studying at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, which is more than a half of the total number of the foreign citizens who are receiving higher education at our university. Yury Bialykh stated that students from Turkmenistan successfully study, and also show good results in sports and creativity.
Participants of the conference were able to view the creative achievements of the foreign students of Yanka Kupala University during the event. The students gave performances of traditional music and read poems in the Turkmen language. The meeting ended with watching of the thematic video, made and given by the Embassy of Turkmenistan in the Republic of Belarus.

The first classes in the framework of the joint educational program with Tashkent State University of Law started on October 14 remotely.
The joint educational program based on two universities provides training of students from Uzbekistan in the specialty "International law". In the first two years students study at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, then they master the third year program at home,
at Tashkent State University of Law, and return to Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno to finish their studies at the first degree of higher education. Thirty four freshmen started their studies this year.
“The development of joint educational programs is a strategic direction in the international activities of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno. In 2016 we implemented the first joint educational program with the partner from China – Chongqing University of Technology, specializing in «Information Technology Software». At the moment, we have 14 joint educational programs with various partners, including universities in France, the USA, Kazakhstan, and Sri Lanka. And today we have started a new joint educational program with Tashkent State University of Law. This is the first joint educational program with the higher educational institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan,” said Iryna Kiturka, Rector of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
As Iryna Kiturka said during an online meeting with the first year students from Uzbekistan and the administration of Tashkent State University of Law, the specialty "International law" is much in demand among applicants. Every year a large number of them apply right to this specialty.
“I am glad to welcome new Kupala students to our University and hope that soon you will be able to come to Grodno to study directly,” Iryna Kiturka addressed the students from Uzbekistan.
In his turn, the rector of Tashkent State University of Law Rahim Khakimov noted that the implementation of the joint educational program with Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will contribute to the development of mutually beneficial cooperation between the two countries – Belarus and Uzbekistan. He drew attention to the fact that there were many applicants who wanted to participate in the joint educational program. Of the total number of applications submitted (335) thirty four people were enrolled in the first year.
Iryna Kiturka told students from Uzbekistan about the opportunities that Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno provides today and wished them successful studies. Dean of the Faculty of Law Sviatlana Chaburanava recalled the graduates, among them – state-level authorities, successful professionals who represent their Alma mater with dignity. She encouraged first year students to set high goals and achieve them.
It is worth mentioning that students from Uzbekistan are already studying
at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno. Ruslana Tolstosheeva, a second year student of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism, who came to study in Grodno last year, shared her impressions.
“It is fascinating to study here. I am glad that I chose Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno. There are plenty of opportunities for students here, and it is possible to realize your talents not only in academic field, but also in sports and creativity,” Ruslana Tolstosheeva said.
After the official online launch of the joint educational program the first lecture was held for students from Uzbekistan who entered the specialty "International law". In the near future, due to the epidemiological situation, classes will be held remotely using Information and Communications Technologies.

The best student of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will be named on October 21.
7 students of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will take part in the final stage of the competition: a 2nd year student of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism Alexandra Slutskaya, a 2nd year student of the Fachulty of Philology Andrey Dunko, a 3rd year student of the Faculty of Pedagogy Valeria Litvinenkova, a 2nd year student of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism Arseniy Sidorkevich, a 3rd year student of the Faculty of Pedagogy Tatiana Shcherbach, a 2nd year student of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism Dmitry Filipkov, and a 3rd year student of the Faculty of psychology Yulia Klesheva.
All finalists successfully completed the pre-selection tasks. They presented a comedy video about themselves to the jury, and also developed their own project "Youth initiative", dedicated to the solution of a specific social problem.
During the final tests, students will talk to the jury and the audience about their hobbies and achievements in the competition "Business card", demonstrate the skills of speech technique and standards of speaking, originality of presentation, creativity and ability to contact the audience in the oratory competition, also unleash their creative potential in the competition "Belarus – our common home". The name of the best student of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will be announced on October 21, also the best support group of the University will be selected as part of the final competition. The winner will represent Alma mater at the regional stage of the Republican competition "Student of the year-2020".
Iryna Kiturka, rector of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, discussed the proposals for the development of the University's Strategy with students
Representatives of eight Faculties told the rector about their vision for the development of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
The proposal to participate in the developing of the University's strategy for 2021-2025 was proposed by Iryna Kiturka during a series of autumn meetings with students at the Faculties. During two previous weeks, students developed and discussed constructive proposals in their teams.
– I am convinced that a good result can be achieved when we join our forces. Therefore, for the first time we decided to involve in this process not only the teaching staff, but also students. You have different ways of thinking and, perhaps, a bit different views of what the University of the future should be, – Iryna Kiturka noted at the beginning of the meeting.
The proposals voiced by students concerned improving the quality of the educational process and increasing students ' awareness of the main events in the life of the University. As it turned out, students are still concerned about the strengthening of the training component in education, as well as the activation of contacts with foreign scientists. Iryna Kiturka noted that the organization of meetings with visiting professors will be reviewed taking into account the epidemiological situation. Meetings will be resumed in the near future, but now they can be organized only in online format.
Students expressed interest in including additional subjects beyond their curriculum. This would help to determine the choice of an academic course of the second higher education. Questions about the involvement of students in scientific activities, about providing University classrooms and laboratories with modern equipment were also discussed during the meeting. In addition, the participants of the meeting proposed new approaches to the organization of student self-government, talked about how to facilitate the adaptation of freshmen to their new student life.
– We have already made a big step forward, –the rector said and thanked students for their suggestions. – All your ideas are important; they deserve attention and further discussion. I want you to know that we hear you and support you in everything. The future of the University depends on all of us, on our common interest in achieving the best results.
Iryna Kiturka reminded that she expects to see all the proposals voiced by students in written form by October 25 so that the University management and teaching staff can continue with the developing of University's Strategy for the next five years. In the near future, the rector of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno will meet students from six other Faculties.
The increasing role of local government and self-government with a view to regional development were discussed at Yanka Kupala State University
The first meeting within the platform "Grodno dialogue-2020" took place at Yanka Kupala state University of Grodno
Igor Zhuk, Chairman of the Grodno regional House of Representatives, moderated the dialogue platform entitled ”Increasing the role of local government and self-government with a view to regional development". He noted that the main goal of the dialogue between the public and the authorities is to develop and form specific proposals for modification in the Constitution of the Republic of Belarus, the law on local government and other legislative acts for the further development of the country and the region in the interests of citizens.
"This is a very important topic, because local authorities must solve all issues of life and develop human capital and economy," – Igor Zhuk said. – "We must discuss all the problems that discourage the development of the Grodno region”.
The work of the dialogue platform was carried out in the format of an open dialogue. It was attended by heads of various government bodies, representatives of public organizations and political parties, representatives, citizens with an active civil position. All participants could speak out and make suggestions.
In the near future, meetings within the platform "Grodno dialogue-2020" will continue. Proposals on the upcoming constitutional reform and other topical issues of the country's and region's development will be analyzed and systematized by participants and experts of the platform "Grodno dialogue-2020". The result of the work will be their submission for consideration from the part of Grodno region to the forum "All-Belarusian people's Assembly".
The best group of the University was named at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno
The final of the competition "Best University group 2020" took place at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno on October 15.
The competition was held in three stages. In the first stage, the best group was selected at each of the Faculties. At the second stage, students who won in the previous stage presented their portfolios and videos about their group to the jury. The final stage was the final performance. This year, four groups of students (representatives of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology, two groups of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism, and the Faculty of Pedagogy) demonstrated their talents on the main stage of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno.
Before the event, Vice-Rector for Education Vasiliy Sianko gave a welcoming speech to students: he wished them success, good luck in the competition, and new creative achievements at the Alma mater.
The first competitive challenge for students was the presentation of the group: students told about and showed their achievements, talked about their hobbies and student life. Students proved their unity and creativity with each performance. As part of the creative competition, students sang, danced, recited poems.
The students of the 3rd year of the specialty “Information and Communication” of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism became the winners of the University competition "Best University group 2020", the second place was taken by the group of the 4th course of the specialty "Preschool education” of the Faculty of Pedagogy, the third place was taken by 3rd year students of the specialty “Tourism and Hospitality" of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism. The 4th year group of the specialty "Biotechnology" of the Faculty of Biology and Ecology was awarded with a special prize from the Trade Union Committee of University students.
Each team of contest participants received sweet prizes from the organization "BRYU", and the winners were also awarded with an excursion trip across Belarus.
The women's football team of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno became the bronze medalist of the Republican student football league
Competitions were held in the program of the Republican Universiade-2020 from October 12 to October 16 in Minsk.
The team of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno won twice in its subgroup and took the second place in the final stage. In the first game of the final, our team lost to the team of Belarusian State Pedagogical University with the score 0:2. In the bronze medal match, the women's team of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno met the team of the Belarusian State University. The match ended with the score 1:1. Extra time did not reveal the winner, thus penalties were awarded. Thanks to the goalkeeper, students of Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno became the bronze prize-winners of the national student football League. The goalkeeper of the Kupala University team – student Viktoria Avdeychyk – was also recognized as the best goalkeeper of the competition.

Language cafes take place at Yanka Kupala State University Kupala residents are invited to improve their knowledge of Polish and English in an interactive format
Within the framework of language cafes, participants have the opportunity to improve their level of foreign language proficiency by communicating in an informal setting on specific topics. This year's meetings are held in Polish and English. Students of our University, as well as foreign students – native speakers who came to Yanka Kupala State University to take part in academic exchange programs, traditionally act as the leading language cafes. So, the host of this year's Polish language evenings is Tomasz Hyła, a student from Poland who is studying at Kupala University as part of the Erasmus+ program. 5-year students of the Faculty of Philology Victoria Galaburda and Polina Sadiuk help with the practice of English.
Traditionally, meetings are held in an interactive format. The organizers offer participants the necessary set of foreign vocabulary for familiarization. Using it, participants discuss a given topical topic in a warm and friendly atmosphere. The level of knowledge of the language does not matter.
The next meeting of the Polish language cafe will be held on Wednesday, October 14, and you can communicate in English on Friday, October 16. Language cafes will be held on these days in the main building of the University at the address: Ozheshko, 22, room 334. Meetings start at 18.15.

The Chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee spoke with residents and discussed the prospects for the development of the Technopark with the University management.
Currently, the construction of a new building of the Science and Technology Park is going on. According to the regulatory deadlines, the completion of the second stage is scheduled for May 2021. Work is being carried out ahead of the schedule, and residents are actively forming a waiting list for office and industrial premises in the new building of the Technology Park. At the moment, the demand for office space is satisfied with 80 percent. All available space in the first building, which was opened two years ago, is already occupied by the residents.
– The main direction of economic development at the present stage is innovation, – the Chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee Vladimir Karanik said during a visit to the Technology Park. – One of the obvious advantages of such Technology parks is that people of different interests and activities gather here. After all, it is at the intersection of the interests of representatives of different spheres that new, most interesting and breakthrough technologies are born.
The total area of the first building of Yanka Kupala State University Science and Technology Park is more than a thousand square meters. With the commissioning of the second stage of the Technology Park for creating innovative products, potential residents will have another 6.5 thousand square meters, while half of the area will be provided for organizing the production process.
– We will provide residents with technological opportunities, and they will be able to place their equipment here and produce an innovative product, –Yury Ramanouski, Vice-Rector for Science at Yanka Kupala State University commented. – At the moment, we continue to form a waiting list and accept applications from residents who wish to rent production facilities in the Technology Park. I would like to remind you of the preferences that residents of the Science and Technology Park can expect: preferential rental of equipment and space, income tax at a lower rate, as well as the possibility of access to University scientific thought.
12 resident companies have already taken advantages provided by the Technology Park. By the way, almost half of them were opened by the staff and students of Yanka Kupala State University. The Chairman of the Grodno Regional Executive Committee was also told that a lot of work is being done at Yanka Kupala State University to attract students and teachers to innovative entrepreneurship during his visit to the Technology Park. Vladimir Karanik spoke with residents and noted that the region has a fairly good industrial potential and the most promising scientific developments, having been tested in small-scale production, can later be launched into large-scale industrial production at enterprises of the Grodno region. Thus, the Science and Technology Park can stimulate the emergence of innovative industries in the region and create new jobs.
The elimination rounds of the competition "Alma Mater – love from the first year – 2020" will be held at Yanka Kupala State University
Freshmen of the University's Faculties will present their creative performances to the audience and the jury.
The competition "Alma Mater – love from the first year" will celebrate its anniversary this year. Traditionally, the final is preceeded by elimination rounds: for several days, each Faculty demonstrates its performances to compete for victory in the main creative competition of Kupala University. Freshmen take part in the performances.
Performances of Kupala students will start on October 26 and will last until October 29. The topic of the contest is "25 years – love from the first year!".
On Monday, October 26, freshmen of the Faculties of Mathematics and Informatics, Innovative Technologies of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Engineering and Construction will show their performances.
On Tuesday, October 27, Kupala residents are invited to evaluate the performances of students of the Faculty of History, Communication and Tourism, the Faculty of Philology and the Faculty of Physical Education.
On Wednesday, October 28, cadets of the Military Faculty, students of the Faculty of Economics and Management and the Faculty of Biology and Ecology will take the stage at Kupala University.
The elimination rounds of the competition will end on Thursday, October 29, with performances of freshmen teams of the Faculty of Art and Design, Pedagogy and Law Faculties.
14 students of Yanka Kupala state university of Grodno were transferred from the fee-paid to the free-of-charge type of education
A meeting of the commission of transferring students to study at the expense of the Republican budget took place at Yanka Kupala state university of Grodno.
The transfer was made according to the availability of free budget places at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno at the end of the previous academic year. The competition for filling vacant budget places was attended by 20 students who study well, who have achieved high results in research and public works.
As a result of the meeting of the commission, 14 students were transferred from the fee-paid to the free-of-charge type of education. This number is by the way 6 people more than in the last academic year. These are students of the faculty of arts and design, faculty of history, communication and tourism, faculty of economics and management, faculty of innovative mechanic engineering, law and philological faculties.
We also remind that this year 167 students of Yanka Kupala state university of Grodno who study on a paid basis and have high results in educational, research and social work, received discounts on fees at the rate of 20 to 60% of the whole tuition fee.
Over the past five years at Yanka Kupala State University of Grodno, 518 students have received these types of social support from the state at Yanka Kupala state University. 475 of these students got discounts on tuition and 43 students were transferred to the free-of-charge type of education.
